If you could decide upon policies and implement them, how would you impact the world?

The NYU Public Policy Symposium was born with this question in mind. Our aim is to gather the brightest students from across the political spectrum in New York, and give them the opportunity to form one coherent policy proposal on a predetermined topic.

During the Fall, prospective participants are invited to form 5 different caucuses representing opposing political perspectives, and engage in a variety of discussion sessions and professor-led workshops. Throughout, students will gain valuable skills in research, debate, and policy memo writing. Finally, the process culminates Symposium Weekend, where students will present different proposals, then agree on one final proposal.

No technical expertise is required prior to the symposium. In fact, the Public Policy Symposium is a great learning opportunity for students interested in further developing the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in policymaking.

We have not yet announced this year’s theme. Last year’s topic was Infrastructure; subtopics included Energy Policy, Pollution, Waste Management, Foreign Aid and more.
